My technique emerged from developing skills in Celtic knotwork as a child. I then found my own way of weaving figures and creatures together in dense, interlaced compositions which spoke to my environmental concerns. My work carries hidden stories, the closer you look, the more there Is to find.
Land to see is where that way of working meets something new. At the heart of the project is a collaboration with ecologist Luke Kozak, he’s knowledge of river systems and habitats Will shape not just what I draw but how I understand what I am drawing. We are working along local waterways together, looking properly at what lives there, what is under pressure and what is quietly extraordinary. That research is finding its way directly into the work.
I am moving my hand drawn imagery into screen printing for the first time working with printmaker Steve Bamford and the printmakers of pool. Screen printing suits this kind of work. The layering, the repetition, the wire design can be built up in stages rather than render it all at once.
